Hormuz Mission Planning Moves Forward in London

Dozens of countries have sent military planners to London for two days of talks on preparing an international mission in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the British government, the aim is to translate the diplomatic consensus reached so far into a concrete military plan that could help reopen the strategic sea route once conditions are met.

More than a dozen nations had tentatively signed up to the British- and French-led operation by last week. In parallel, a videoconference brought together around 50 countries from Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

British Defense Secretary John Healey said participants would focus over the two days on military capabilities, command structures and the deployment of forces in the region.
