Doctors Without Borders will not provide Israel with the names of its workers
The organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has announced that it will not submit lists of its employees to Israel, as required by new rules for continuing operations in Gaza and the West Bank. The reason is that it has failed to obtain the necessary security guarantees for its workers.
MSF is one of 37 humanitarian organizations that Israel has ordered to cease operations unless they comply with new conditions, including sharing data on their employees. The registrations are intended to prevent the misuse of aid by Palestinian armed groups.
However, according to MSF, sharing sensitive data could pose a risk in the context of two years of war, during which hundreds of humanitarian workers have been killed or injured.
Doctors Without Borders was initially willing to provide a limited list of employees who would agree to this, on condition that the data would be used exclusively for administrative purposes. However, after unsuccessful negotiations, the organization announced that no agreement had been reached.
If its activities are banned, MSF warns of devastating consequences for healthcare in Gaza, where people are already facing a major humanitarian crisis.
