Kyiv and Vilnius Agree Long-Term LNG Supply Route

Ukraine and Lithuania have agreed on long-term supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) through Lithuania’s Klaipeda terminal, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said during a visit to Lithuania on Monday.

Under the agreement, capacity will be booked at the Klaipeda terminal for deliveries to Ukraine. The gas could come from producers in the United States and the Middle East.

Ukraine has been forced to increase gas imports after Russia stepped up attacks on the country’s gas infrastructure and domestic production late last year.

At a joint press conference with Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene, Svyrydenko also said Ukraine had offered its underground gas storage facilities for use.
