Zelensky Signs Defense and Energy Deals With Azerbaijan

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed agreements on security and energy cooperation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a visit to Baku.

Kyiv is seeking to use its experience in defending against Russian attacks, particularly in the areas of air defense and anti-drone warfare. That experience has drawn increased interest following the recent escalation of conflict in the Middle East.

Military-industrial cooperation, including possible joint production of defense technologies, was also part of the talks. Azerbaijan sees broad potential in the area, although details of the agreements have not been made public.

At the same time, Zelensky raised the issue of resuming peace talks with Russia. He suggested that the next round of negotiations could be held in Azerbaijan if Moscow shows willingness to engage.

Diplomatic efforts, however, have slowed after the United States shifted more of its attention to the conflict with Iran.
