Witkoff and Kushner Head to Pakistan for Iran Talks

US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are heading to Pakistan for mediated talks with Iran. According to the White House, the visit is an effort to build on recent failed negotiations and make use of “some progress” achieved by the US side in recent days.

The meeting will take place in Islamabad with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in attendance. Washington wants to test Tehran’s willingness to move toward a deal, although it has not disclosed specific details of that progress.

The first round of talks, led by Vice President JD Vance, failed to produce a breakthrough. Vance is now ready to intervene if the negotiations develop positively.

Meanwhile, Trump extended the two-week ceasefire with Iran, giving diplomacy more time to produce a solution.
