EU Court Strikes Down Hungary's LGBTQ Ban

The Court of Justice of the European Union has ruled that Hungary violated EU law by legislating to restrict access to LGBTQ content, finding that the measures lead to the stigmatization and marginalization of sexual minorities.

The verdict relates to legislation enacted under Viktor Orban's government, including a ban on Pride marches and the use of technology to identify participants. The court also found violations of the EU's fundamental values enshrined in Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union, as well as rules on the free provision of services and data protection.

The ruling comes after a change of government, following Peter Magyar's election victory. Magyar campaigned on a platform of promoting equality, though his specific stance on LGBTQ rights remains unclear.
