Trump Dismisses Claims Israel Pushed Him into War with Iran
US President Donald Trump has rejected reports that Israel persuaded him to strike Iran, pushing back against both media coverage and criticism from right-wing commentators.
"Israel never talked me into the war with Iran", Trump wrote on his Truth Social network. He said his position was shaped by the events of 7 October 2023 and his longstanding view that Iran must not be permitted to acquire nuclear weapons.
Trump also declared that the results of what he called the crackdown in Iran would be "amazing". His comments come as the United States prepares to resume negotiations, with talks expected to take place in Pakistan, though Iran's position remains unclear.
The president also raised the possibility of a change in Iranian leadership, implicitly calling for regime change and writing that if Iran's new leaders were wise, the country could have a great and prosperous future.
