Kyiv Shooting Death Toll Rises to Seven as Police Probe Motive
The death toll from Saturday’s shooting in Kyiv has risen to seven after a critically injured man died in hospital, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
Klitschko said the victim had been in a critical condition from the outset and doctors were unable to save his life.
The attacker, identified as a man of Russian origin, reportedly opened fire in the Holosiivskyi district before barricading himself inside a supermarket with hostages. He was later shot dead by police.
Seven other people remain in hospital, including a child, with four patients in intensive care.
Such attacks are rare in Ukraine, and the incident has prompted a strong response. Security services are treating the case as a possible act of terrorism, although the motive remains unclear.
