German Woman Detained in Russia Over Alleged Bomb Plot

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) says it has detained a 57-year-old German woman who was allegedly carrying an explosive device equivalent to around 1.5 kg of TNT in her backpack.

According to Russian authorities, the woman was planning an attack on a security forces facility in the Stavropol region. They described the case as part of a “false flag” operation allegedly orchestrated by Ukrainian intelligence.

At the same time, officials said they had detained a man from Central Asia who was supposed to carry out the attack and was believed to be acting on behalf of a terrorist organisation.

Unverified video footage circulating online appears to show armed units intervening and a bomb squad defusing the backpack. Reuters noted that the information could not be independently verified, and Ukraine has not commented on the allegations.

Moscow has repeatedly accused Kyiv of involvement in sabotage operations on Russian territory, but has often not provided supporting evidence. Similar claims have been made in the past, including in connection with attacks attributed to Islamist extremists.
