North Korea Tests Short-Range Missiles With New Warheads
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw another series of short-range ballistic missile tests aimed at assessing the effectiveness of new cluster and fragmentation warheads, state media reported. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said it was the fourth such test this month.
According to available data, Hwasong-11 missiles struck their targets with high accuracy at a range of about 136 km, indicating the systems can cover a wider area in a single strike.
South Korea described the launches as a provocation and warned of an unusually high presence of frontline commanders.
Experts said the systems could threaten not only the South Korean capital but also US military bases in the region. The tests were also condemned by the UK Foreign Office.
Kim expressed satisfaction with the results and called for further weapons development. At the same time, speculation is growing that his daughter may have reappeared at the tests.
