Pope Leo XIV Named Among Time’s 100 Most Influential People

In the first year of his pontificate, Pope Leo XIV has been named to Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Writing in Time, director Martin Scorsese described the inclusion as a historic breakthrough, noting that Leo XIV is the first pope from the United States. He said he expects the new pontiff to bring fresh impetus to the modernization of the Church, particularly through greater involvement of the laity in its governance.

The ranking includes figures from a range of fields, from politics to culture. Those selected include US President Donald Trump, Chinese leader Xi Jinping and prominent figures from the entertainment industry.

Leo XIV follows in the footsteps of his predecessors, who have appeared repeatedly on the list. Pope Francis and Benedict XVI have been named several times.
