EU Considers Action Against Meta
The European Commission is preparing action against Meta, accusing the company of restricting competition on its WhatsApp platform.
The move follows the introduction of an access fee for competing artificial intelligence (AI) assistants, which Brussels says effectively prevents them from operating. The Commission is considering interim measures that would require Meta to restore third-party access under the same conditions as before October 2025.
The measures would remain in place until the investigation is completed and are intended to prevent "serious and irreparable harm to competition".
Meta said the rules are fair and warned that granting free access to large technology firms would shift costs indirectly onto small businesses using WhatsApp Business.
