EU Allocates €1.07 Billion to Defense Projects

The European Commission has announced €1.07 billion in funding for 57 defense projects across key sectors, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, drones and counter-drone systems.

The funding forms part of a €7.3 billion package for 2021–2027 and is intended to support the objectives of the Defense Readiness Roadmap 2030. The roadmap provides financing for four main initiatives: the European Drone Defense Initiative, Eastern Flank Watch, the European Air Shield and the European Space Shield.

At the same time, the European Union (EU) is expanding cooperation with Ukraine’s defense industry. One of the flagship initiatives is the STRATUS project, which focuses on developing an artificial intelligence-based cyber defense system for drone swarms. A Ukrainian subcontractor is involved in the project.

The selected projects include 634 entities from 26 EU member states and Norway. The investments aim to strengthen defense capabilities and technological development across Europe.
