Vance Hails End of US Support for Ukraine as Success
US Vice President JD Vance has described the decision to end American support for Kyiv as a major success of President Donald Trump’s administration.
Speaking at an event organized by Turning Point USA in Georgia, Vance said the cessation of funding for Ukraine ranked among the administration’s key achievements.
He recalled an encounter with an American of Ukrainian origin who challenged his calls to end support for Kyiv. Vance said he had stood by his position and continued to view the decision as one of the administration’s most important steps.
According to Vance, the United States has made clear to European allies that if they wish to continue supporting Ukraine, they can purchase weapons themselves, but Washington will no longer provide funding or direct military supplies. The shift marks a significant departure from previous policy, under which the US was one of Ukraine’s main backers.
Following the change, European partners have assumed most of the military aid burden in 2025. At the same time, Ukraine has reported delays in deliveries and shortages of air defence ammunition during Russian attacks.
Vance has long been among the most vocal critics of US support for Ukraine. He recently also criticized President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who responded by saying that the vice president is not involved in peace talks.
