Vance: US–Iran Mistrust Runs Deep Despite Progress in Talks

US Vice President JD Vance said there is deep mistrust between the US and Iran that cannot be resolved overnight, while noting that negotiations have made some progress.

He added that Iranian negotiators are interested in reaching an agreement and assessed recent developments positively.

Talks could resume soon in Pakistan, a possibility also confirmed by President Donald Trump after the failed weekend round that prompted increased pressure from Washington, including a blockade of Iranian ports.

The situation remains fragile as the current ceasefire is set to expire in one week. Trump told ABC News on Tuesday that he is not considering an extension. "It could end either way, but I think a deal is preferable because then they can rebuild," the president said.
