Instagram Extends Restrictions to Teens Around the World
Instagram is expanding its enhanced accounts for teens globally, based on principles similar to film age ratings for users aged 13 and above. Young users will automatically have stricter content filters applied and will not be able to turn them off without parental consent.
The platform aims to align the viewing experience more closely with content teenagers would typically see in films designed for their age group.
Instagram also acknowledged the system is not perfect and said it will refine it over time.
The new rules expand the blocking of inappropriate content, including profanity, risky behavior or posts that could encourage harmful habits. Another feature is the Restricted Content mode, which gives parents greater control over what their children see.
The platform is also tightening search, recommendations and interactions with accounts that share inappropriate content, and adjusting AI tool responses for younger users.
