Germany Seeks Extradition of Extremist after Gender Change
Czech police have arrested a man wanted by German authorities under a European arrest warrant near the town of Aš. The suspect, identified as extremist Sven Liebich, was sentenced in Germany to one and a half years in prison for incitement, insult and slander, but failed to serve the sentence and went into hiding in the Karlovy Vary region.
The public prosecutor’s office in Halle said it is preparing an extradition request. If extradited, Liebich would be held in a prison in the Saxon city of Chemnitz.
The case is unusual in that the convicted person has since officially changed gender, which may have been linked to an attempt to serve the sentence in a women’s prison.
