Survey: Pro-Russian Content Flooding Hungarian Telegram

Research by Vox Harbor suggests a coordinated disinformation campaign on Telegram ahead of the parliamentary elections in Hungary. According to the analysis, the effort is intended to spread fears about the possible fall of Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

A significant share of the content is said to consist of posts linked to Russia and associated with President Vladimir Putin. The analysts identified recurring narratives and identical wording across multiple channels, which they said pointed to organized activity.

Telegram, they said, functions as an "incubator" from which the same themes spread to Facebook or TikTok.

The opposition accuses Orban and his Fidesz party of a large-scale disinformation campaign, while the government camp says it is legitimately informing the electorate and points to the alleged influence of Brussels.
