Ex-Military Arrested Over Alleged Leak to Journalist
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested Courtney Williams, a former military special operations employee, accusing her of sharing classified information with a journalist, according to The Guardian. The US Department of Justice (DOJ) said she allegedly provided material to investigative reporter Seth Harp, which was used in a Politico article and in a book about Fort Bragg, headquarters of the elite Delta Force.
The reporting examined deaths at the base and soldiers’ alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
Williams worked at the base for six years and had access to sensitive documents, including fake passports for agents. Authorities said she was warned after leaving her job that she must protect classified information.
Federal investigators also obtained phone records showing contact between her and Harp beginning in 2022.
On the day the Politico article was published, Williams wrote that she was concerned about the extent of the information disclosed. She also expressed dissatisfaction with how she was portrayed. FBI Director Kash Patel said the agency will not tolerate leaks.
Seth Harp rejected the allegations, criticized the FBI’s actions and denied obtaining classified material. He said Williams had filed a public complaint alleging discrimination and harassment.
