Iran Warns Ships to Use their Territorial Waters

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned ships to use routes through Iranian territorial waters when transiting the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf, as traffic remains well below 10% of normal volume.

The development is creating uncertainty among shipping companies, which are also grappling with confusion over the US–Iran ceasefire and its impact on the safety and continuity of shipping in the region.

Among those affected is Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, one of the country’s largest shipping firms. Its management said it was awaiting further guidance on shipping safety.
