US–Iran truce fails to calm Israel–Hezbollah fighting

US President Donald Trump has said that the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran does not apply to the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

In his words, it is a ‘separate conflict’ that must be dealt with independently. Hezbollah has indicated a willingness to give mediators a chance, but at the same time claims that Israel is not respecting the ceasefire.

Israel launched large-scale air strikes on Beirut and other parts of Lebanon shortly after the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran, Euronews reports.

According to the Israeli military, it was the largest coordinated operation in the current conflict with Hezbollah, striking more than 100 targets, including rocket launchers and command centres. The attacks also hit densely populated residential and commercial areas, causing panic among residents.
