US backs Hungary’s small nuclear reactor plans

The United States is to support Hungary in developing nuclear power through an engineering study aimed at enabling the construction of small modular reactors. According to a statement from the office of US Vice President JD Vance, Hungary could proceed with the purchase and construction of up to 10 such facilities.

The announcement followed Vance’s visit to Budapest and signals a deepening of energy cooperation between the two countries.

Other significant agreements were also reached. Hungary plans to purchase US-made HIMARS missile systems worth around $700 million.

At the same time, the MOL energy group has bought oil from US suppliers valued at roughly $500 million.
