Iran accepts invitation to peace talks in Islamabad
Pakistani prime minister Shehbaz Sharif said on social media platform X that he had welcomed the support of several countries in efforts to secure a ceasefire and prepare for peace talks in Islamabad. In particular, he thanked China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt and Qatar, as well as the Gulf Cooperation Council states, which he said had played a key role in promoting regional stability.
He also highlighted the role of the United States, which he said, together with its partners, had helped to give diplomacy a chance.
Sharif also reported on a phone call with Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian, who confirmed Iran’s participation in the upcoming talks. Pakistan has offered to host negotiations aimed at finding a comprehensive solution to the conflict.
According to the prime minister, this is a joint effort by a number of countries seeking long-term stability. Islamabad intends to pursue diplomatic initiatives in cooperation with its partners and contribute to lasting peace not only in the region but globally.
