American gaming platform investigated for child protection

The Dutch consumer protection regulator has launched an investigation into the American gaming platform Roblox for possible risks allegedly posed to underage users in the European Union. It announced on Friday that it would examine whether Roblox is taking sufficient measures to protect children.

The EU Digital Services Act requires platforms to implement appropriate measures to ensure the safety of children using their services.

A Roblox spokesperson responded that the company is firmly committed to complying with EU regulations. He also recalled the November 2025 announcement that the company plans to introduce age verification through facial recognition. The aim is to limit contact between children and adults.

Roblox has faced long-standing criticism for failing to protect children from predators and sexual abuse. In the US, the platform is the subject of several lawsuits over allegations related to the safety of underage users.
