Historic success for Serbian police: tons of drugs and weapons seized

Serbian police seized five tons of marijuana after raiding a small agricultural and trading company in a village in central Serbia. This was confirmed by Interior Minister Ivica Dačić, who said it was the largest haul of its kind in the country to date.

During the raid, officers arrested two people, while one suspect remains at large. "This is a record seizure," Dačić said in a statement, adding that police also seized four assault rifles and an anti-tank rocket launcher.

Cannabis production is still illegal in Serbia, although activists are pushing for its legalization for medical purposes. The minister said the investigation would determine the origin of the drugs.

Serbia, which wants to join the European Union, has intensified its efforts to combat drug trafficking and production in recent years. Most drugs enter Serbia from the Middle East and Latin America.
