The EU has added Iran's Revolutionary Guards to its list of terrorists

The European Union has officially added Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to its list of terrorist organizations in response to the brutal crackdown on protests in Iran. According to Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas, "a regime that kills thousands of its own people is heading for its own demise."

The EU's decision means the introduction of sanctions, including asset freezes and travel bans. Fifteen Iranian officials, including the interior minister, have also been added to the list. France, which was initially hesitant, joined the proposal after strong support from Italy.

At the same time, tensions between the US and Iran are escalating, with Donald Trump threatening tougher action if Tehran does not negotiate on its nuclear program.

Iran responded exclusively with military preparedness and the threat of a "crushing response." The exact number of victims of the repression is uncertain due to information blockades.

Human rights organizations report thousands of deaths and tens of thousands of arrests. They also claim that many are being held in unofficial locations such as warehouses or improvised prisons. Activists describe an atmosphere of fear, with people disappearing without any information for their families and even healthcare workers who helped the injured being targeted.
